Imagine Having a Friend in Every City
Say hello to Vancouver, a vibrant coastal city nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Coast Mountain range in British Columbia, Canada. Whether you’re into soaking up mountain views along the seawall, devouring fresh sushi, or exploring unique neighbourhoods — you’re in the right place. What elevates Lighthouse Park beyond typical forest walks is the spectacular meeting of forest and ocean, trails emerge from dense woods onto open rocky bluffs where views span across Burrard Inlet to Vancouver’s skyline and the Gulf Islands beyond. The granite shoreline reveals fascinating geology including striations left by glaciers, tide pools teeming with marine life during low tide, and smooth rock perfect for sitting and contemplating the uniquelyvancouvershow.com view.
COVENANT FESTIVAL XI – NIGHT ONE
- ☕ If you’re as coffee-obsessed as uniquelyvancouvershow.com I am, check out my guide to The Best Coffee in North Vancouver.
- If you’re traveling solo, in a couple, or with friends, you’ll likely find this a delightful way to spend an evening.
- Allow 1.5-2 hours to explore the permanent collection, more if special exhibitions interest you.
- It occurs annually during the summer (around May to October), bringing out the best in innovative, Asian-inspired fusion foods that will propel year-round jaw-dropping Instagram food shots.
Although this is not food, Richmond Night market has to be mentioned here. Started in 2000 by entrepreneur Raymond Cheung, the Richmond Night Market has grown into one of the largest North American night market festivals. It occurs annually during the summer (around May to October), bringing out the best in innovative, Asian-inspired fusion foods that will propel year-round jaw-dropping Instagram food shots. I fully admit to being a coffee lover, and Vancouver’s coffee scene is next level.
Go to an VSO movie night
After a couple minutes you’ll find the wooden platform and gorgeous view. Nudity may not be mainstream, but you can expect to find doses of déshabillé to keep your free spirit afloat with like-minded wreck beachers in this secluded paradise. Wreck Beach is hands down the most unique beach in Vancouver where clothing is optional. It’s only 15 minutes’ driving away from downtown Vancouver, where you can also combine with a family-friendly hike under the towering, evergreen trees to clean out your lungs. A scenic 45-minute drive from Vancouver opens a door to a mecca of outdoor adventures. As you soar above the sky in a floor-to-ceiling glass cable car, the breathtaking view over the mountain town of Squamish and sweeping alpine scenery are gradually uncovered in front of your eyes.
Lifeguards patrol during summer months, and washrooms and changing facilities serve beach-goers. Visit late afternoon to claim a spot for sunset-watching, when the sky often erupts in brilliant oranges and pinks, and the beach fills with people gathered to appreciate nature’s nightly show. The adjacent Seawall allows easy walking or cycling to nearby attractions.
It’s like faceplanting into a cloud, getting a group hug from mashmallows, etc. Sure, this isn’t a uniquely Vancouver activity, but if you’re from a place that doesn’t have a trampoline park of its own, this is a REALLY fun activity that you should try out. Odds are very good that you’ll know a movie or two that filmed here, so consider doing a bit of research to see if any of your favourites have, and track down some iconic locations!
The trees glisten, the pavement steams, and for a few fleeting minutes, the city looks like it’s been filtered through nostalgia. This is when you put on an emotional playlist, go for a neighbourhood walk, and scoff at yourself like girls do in movies. No matter what edge of the city you’re on, you’ll have a view of the Pacific Ocean, mountains in the distance, and a fleeting sense of peace that will almost always be interrupted by at least three people sprinting down the seawall with their dogs. Longliner Seafoods on Granville Island is the place to go if you’re looking for fresh or smoked fish from the area, as they package their goods in a way that’s acceptable for international air travel. Vancouver is a wonderful place to visit and get fantastic gifts for your loved ones. Whether it’s a present for that special someone or yourself, you can find something that catches your eye.
City & Culture
Adventure seekers of all ages can once again enjoy the ultimate rollercoaster ride at Cypress Mountain this Summer. At 1.7 kilometres, the Eagle Coaster has been dubbed the longest mountain coaster in Canada. The huge silos there were not too pretty to look at until Brazilian graffiti artists OSGEMOS dressed them up as colorful giants. Some face the island, some face away – so you can appreciate them whatever side of False Creek you’re on. I use it as a public art reminder to look up every now and again – you never know what you might see.
